The school has been running Forest School since 2011. All year groups have the opportunity to take part throughout the school year. Mrs Young who is a qualified Forest School Leader delivered sessions to pupils in blocks of six sessions at a time.
During a Forest School programme, children spend regular time learning outdoors, undertaking woodland crafts and activitiessuch as fire-lighting, using tools to create wooden objects, den making, creative activities and freely chosen play. Taking learning outside the classroom, creating a supportive environment and giving children achievable tasks, enables them to build confidence and self-esteem, and learn new skills which support their learning back in the classroom.
